St Patricks Day Recipes
March 17th is the day I bring out my favorite St Patricks Day Recipes. I love to celebrate with food and good drink and St Patty's Day is no exception.
St Patricks Day brings out the Irish in everyone. People celebrate this day across the country, from the St. Patrick's Day parade in San Francisco (known as the biggest St. Patrick's Day parade west of the Mississippi) to the city of Chicago dying their river green and the ever famous parade in NYC, bars serving green beer and a lot of green being worn, everyone gets into the spirit.
St. Patrick's Day celebrations in my home, when my kids were young, consisted of baking green cupcakes topped with shamrocks, dying our applesauce green and drinking green fruit punch. They all made sure they wore green (so not to get pinched) and looked forward to creating art work of leprechauns, shamrocks and rainbows with pots of gold. Now that they're grown, I can relax a little and just cook my favorite St Patricks Day Recipes.
I'm a lover of the traditional foods, so on March 17th you will smell the aroma of corn beef and cabbage cooking in my kitchen. You're also find Irish Soda Bread on my dining table and can look forward to an Irish Coffee after dinner. And just think of those delicious Reubens you can make with the leftovers. YUM!
Corn Beef and Cabbage is one of the traditional foods served on St. Patrick's Day. The Irish have used cabbage as a staple in their diet for centuries, however, Irish bacon was originally served with cabbage in Ireland. When the Irish immigrants came to the U.S. most couldn't afford bacon and used corned beef instead. This caught on and is now the standard Irish fare on St. Patrick's Day.
