Hidden Kisses Cookies

Making Hidden Kisses Cookies with my children when they were young proved to be a challenge sometimes. It's hard to prepare a cookie recipe using "hidden kisses" when you realize that all you have are "disappearing kisses". I always knew that I would need lots more chocolate kisses than the recipe called for. But who can resist a kiss.!

Hidden Kisses Cookies

  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
  • 1 c. finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 bag (6 zo.) chocolate candy kisses
  • Powdered sugar

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add flour and walnuts: beat until well blended. Cover and refrigerate dough for 1 to 2 hours or until firm enough to handle

Remove wrappers from chocolate kisses (taking care to watch for chocolate bandits). Heat oven to 375° F. Scoop approximately 1 tbsp. of dough for each cookie and shape around each chocolate kiss. Roll into ball. (Be sure to cover each piece of chocolate completely.) Place on baking stone.

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until cookies are set but not brown. Remove from oven and let cookies cool slightly cool before moving to cooling rack.

While still slightly warm, roll in powdered sugar. Cool completely. Store in a tightly covered container. Roll again in powdered sugar just before serving. Makes about 3 dozens cookies.

For a variation on outside coating, sift together 1 tbsp. powdered cocoa with 1/3 c. powdered sugar.
