Sultry Grilled Asparagus
"Asparagus stirreth up bodily lust in both men and women" according to a well-known 17th century herbalist, Nicholas Culpepper. Sultry Grilled Asparagus is a sure way to stir up passion for your Valentines Day dinner. To help accomplish this task, you will coat it with a glaze, grill it over open flames, then top it with juicy orange sections and tangy onions. It will make a delicious side dish for your romantic dinner on Valentine's Day.
1 1/2 lb. fresh Asparagus 1/4 c. soy sauce 2 tbsp. fresh orange juice 2 tsp. minced garlic 1 tsp. minced fresh chile pepper Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste 1/4 red onion, sliced very thin 1 orange, peeled, seeded, sectioned and sections halved Rinse asparagus and cut off the tough ends. Combine soy sauce, orange juice, garlic and chile pepper. Mix well. Brush the soy mixture over the asparagus stalks, sprinkle them salt and pepper, then grill over a medium-hot fire. Roll occasionally to ensure even cooking. Cook for about 8 - 10 minutes or until the stalks are just lightly browned and tender. Brush with any leftover sauce during the last 30 seconds of grilling. Arrange the asparagus on a platter and garnish with onion slices and orange sections.
You needn't tell me that a man who doesn't love oysters and asparagus and good wines has got a soul." - Saki
